I Am Heaven Bound

Taken From Pam Kanaly's Book,
Will the Real Me Please Stand Up

I recall one of the most tantalizing moments of my young life!  It happened at 5:30 a.m. in the foyer of my aunt and uncle’s house. It was a snowy morning and there on the inside porch squirmed Vicki, my sister, Rusty, my cousin, and me.  The anticipation of the grandiose display inside the other room teased our hearts in shear bliss!  It was Christmas morning!   We waited for the command that would call forth, “Children, come and see!” And with wide-eyed innocence, we bounded into the room of shimmering lights to receive what lay beyond our fondest childlike dreams.

I love to translate my childlike memories of Christmas morning’s glory into my own adult anticipation of the day that God opens the gates of His Holy Habitation and beckons, “Children, come and see!” My focus, my desire, my drive in this life revolves around all that lay “in the next room.” Jonathan Edwards encouraged, “It becomes us to spend this life as a journey towards heaven.” Friends, God has “set eternity in our hearts!”(2) We should be the most becoming people in the entire world testifying, “Come and see!  Come and see all that God has promised for those whose destination awaits the outpouring of The King’s highest favor!”   We’re on a sacred quest to the Throne of The Almighty!  Praise God!  Heaven’s glory!

Heaven!  It’s the longing of the human heart, the goal of the believers’ pilgrimage on earth. Heaven, it’s the eternal and transcendent dwelling place of God and His angels, a new order of life distinguished from our physical earthly existence. Heaven, it’s the final destination of all who through faith have become God’s children. Heaven, it’s God’s handmade Temple where the purest of praises accolade the greatness of The King of Glory.  Heaven, it’s a Celestial ‘Hotel’ with many rooms specifically prepared by Jesus Christ for His followers.  Heaven, it’s the address of the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, whose brilliance like a costly stone reflects images of pearly gates and gold-laden streets. Heaven, it’s a colossal symphony of glory resounding with one unified love song to the King of Zion, where even the monstrous wings of the angels swish “like the sounds of abundant waters” dropping their wings in hallowed allegiance. Heaven, it’s the abode of the redeemed, the place where they shine like stars forever becoming “a pillar in the temple of God” physically taking their place of eternal honor as joint-heirs with Christ. Heaven!  It’s your future home, your destiny! Oh friend, if we could catch a glimpse of our perfect satisfaction in Heaven’s glory, abounding in God’s goodness, we would hold the ties that bind us to this sin infiltrated earth with an open palm, eagerly anticipating our homecoming into resurrected life.

We get so excited about a family get-a-way to a sandy beach where our worn-out souls can find rest. Yet how often do we live in the spirit of vacation concerning our future Heaven-Bound Resort? Can you imagine such a spot where the barriers between redeemed humans and God will forever be removed and through God’s lens you experience His unveiled spectacularness? What thrills might await you when the curse you’ve lived under lifts itself? Who can indulge in the reverie of God’s blessings of perfect peace? Envision no sadness, stress, or tears; a body fully engaged in all five senses that never droops, weakens, toils, or dies.

But most glorious of all, calculate God HIMSELF living in your presence face-to-face!  Yes! God’s pleasure in your face! He will talk to His creation like in the original Garden of Eden. His unfolded greatness will permeate the celestial air where His people will continually frolic in unhampered fellowship with Him.  Along with every “nation, tribe, people, and language,” you will exalt in one melodious voice extolling God for His most lavish gift of all: your ticket into heaven, Jesus Christ, the Sacrificial Lamb! You will inhale His presence exploring and serving His Kingdom as a delegated king, enjoying His graces of friendships, assigned work, and unconstrained joy! Can you imagine reveling forever in God’s most breathtaking labor of love for His creation: Heaven in all its splendor! Friends, please do imagine! Glory to God in the Highest! You’re heaven bound!

Revelation 21: 1 – “And I saw a new heaven and new earth.”
