Happy Birthday, Sara!
Happy 35thBirthday, Sara!
What she remembers about being raised in a single parent home.
I love this picture. I was a single mother. My little Sara was two years old. TODAY she turns 35! How can that be? Where did those 33 years go? Looking at that little girl warms my heart because today she is such a beautiful woman of God, precious daughter, lovely wife, and wonderful mother. I just thank God for His faithfulness in her life.
As a single mom raising young girls, I know you have questions. What should I do in setting an example for her? How can I lead her when I’m a mess myself sometimes? And what will her life be like at thirty-five years old? I had those questions, too. In fact, I clearly remember the day this picture was taken. I had just cried my eyes out because I so wanted both Sara and her brother to not be damaged because of the divorce. I felt helpless to fix it.
But here’s the great news. We are NEVER helpless. In fact, when we are most HELPLESS, God is most HELPFUL! Moms, know this: You have what it takes to raise up great kids! God is fully able to do exceedingly and abundantly MORE than you could ever hope or imagine. Never is it too late for God to do a great work. A single mom’s life yielded to Jesus has great power!
I wanted to share three tips for raising godly girls. Then the more I thought about it, the more I thought why not let my daughter, Sara, tell you three things she remembers from growing up in a single parent home. Surely her testimony would speak volumes over mine. Right? Actually, I was surprised at what she said and stunned by what she remembered! Goodness, a little bit of positive mothering on our part goes a long way. Moms, this I know. There are days we feel like failures, but God is faithful to somehow let “the good stuff” stick. So take heart and keep-on-keepin’ on!
